SUOMUSSALMI GROUP
- Within this area MEN Finland possesses five ore prospecting (claim) licences – Rytisuo, Rytisuo 2 (in the north) and Syrjälä, Syrjälä 2, Syrjälä 3, Kuikkanpuro 1,2,3 (in the south) and two reservation applications Hossa and Kivelä.
- The greenstone belt of Suomussaimi is composed of a lower komatiitic and tholeiitic volcanic sequence, a middle sedimentary unit and an upper volcanic sequence that is mainly andesitic-rhyodacitic in composition . These series have been folded and then intruded by granitic to granodioritic plutons.
- Total area: 111.7
- There are 3 known gold occurrences with mineralisation confirmed by drilling.
- Gold prospects are associated with highly altered shear zones in Archaean intermediate and mafic metavolcanics which are usually characterized by quartz veins.
